New appointment at one of the largest trusts in the UK
Dean Royles, the high profile leader of NHS Employers, is set to leave the organisation later this year for the post of director of HR and OD at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
Royles, who is well known among HR profession for supporting progressive innovation and organisational change, announced his planned move to staff yesterday.
He said he had “benefited greatly” from working at NHS Employers, calling it a “unique organisation [that] I have been privileged to be part of it for three and a half years”.
“I am proud of the team I have assembled, and our contribution to developing a workforce focused on patients,” Royles added. “During my time here, I have made it a priority to value partnership working as a central part of everything we do, and I am confident that this approach will continue to be successful in coming years.”
Rob Webster, chief executive of NHS Confederation, said: "Dean has been a class act at NHS Employers – he has inspired, challenged and supported colleagues at all levels – and we are all sad to see him go. His new post in Leeds is a fantastic job for him and we wish him and the team at Leeds well. He will make an excellent contribution.”
Commenting on his new appointment, which he will take up in September, Royles said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to be joining one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK at such an exciting time. Royles joined NHS Employers as chief executive in 2010, prior to this he held a number of senior HR roles across various health organisations, including director of workforce and education at the North West Strategic Health Authority. He has also held board level posts at the United Lincolnshire Hospitals and East Midlands Ambulance Service and spent three years as director of HR capacity for England at the Department of Health. Since 2009 he has also been the chair of the Executive Board of the CIPD.
Royles will take over from Jackie Green, who has been director of HR for Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2009.
